How to rent out your prom dress
You can make money from your prom dress by renting it out on e.closet. List it with photos and measurements, set your own flat price for each rental length, and get paid every time someone rents it. Formal pieces on e.closet typically rent for $35–$70, and you keep what's left after a 15% service fee.

Step by step
- Photograph it well. Use natural light, show the front and back, add a photo of it on, and close-ups of the fabric and any details.
- Add the size and measurements. Bust, waist, hips and length, plus the brand and condition (New, Like New, Good or Fair). Accurate measurements help renters book with confidence, and they protect you from fit disputes.
- Set your prices. Choose a flat price for each rental length you want to offer: 2, 4, 5, 7, 14 or 30 days. For reference, the median formal rental on e.closet is $50 for the shortest length. You can also set a sale price if you'd sell it.
- Choose how it gets to renters. Offer local handoff, shipping, a same-city courier, or any mix. More options reach more renters.
- Answer requests. Every request comes with a message thread, so you can sort out sizing and handover before you accept.
Get paid
You're paid for each completed rental, minus e.closet's 15% service fee, and you can withdraw to your bank account or Venmo whenever there's a balance.
Timing: list before prom season
Most proms are held in spring. List your dress in January or February, before the season starts. The same dress also works for winter formals, homecoming, galas and weddings.
Protecting your dress
- Write down the condition, and photograph it before every rental.
- Ask for dry cleaning in your listing if the dress needs it before return.
- Damage and late returns beyond normal wear are charged to the renter under e.closet's Rental Protection Policy.
- Ship within the deadline shown on the order, and scan the e.closet QR code at drop-off. Missing either can cancel the order.
